Teaching is a sharing of knowledge and experience and equipping the learners with competencies and lifeskills to prepare them for braving the challenges of 21st century. With this aim, teacher training session was held for the DPSG Middle and secondary wing staff to lace the teachers with the 21st Century competencies.
Day 1 session held on 7th of January 2019 was taken by Ms. Suman Chawla. Ms. Chawla is a seasoned trainer bearing a rich experience of 13 years in the field of education. The day began with an ice-breaking exercise where all the members introduced themselves adding an adjective to their name and stating an interesting fact about themselves. Ground rules were set with the mutual consent of all for further proceedings.
All the six competencies - Critical, Creative, Collaboration, Communication, Character and Citizenship were revisited followed by an onine MCQ test . The session further proceeded and delved deep into the six competencies aligning each competency with teaching strategy. The focus was on developing competency based curriculum to create a conducive environment to facilitate 21st century learning competencies by creating the BE, KNOW & DO Bridge. The session was aptly concluded with the recapitultion of the content covered so far with the help of the inner circle - outercircle strategy.
The second day of workshop began with the distribution of new format of a lesson plan. Each heading and the sub-heading of the plan were discussed in detail.
The main focus of the new lesson plan was the decision or the choice of the competencies to be developed in the learners.
The learning outcomes such as Know- Do- Be were explained clearly during the training. Later the key components for Getting Ready to Learn were discussed.
Development of the lesson based on : Active learning, Group Learning, Differentiation and Questioning was also discussed. The subject-specific activities related to the topics were discussed. Subsequently the topics such as Closure, Check for Understanding and the Home Assignment to be given were also discussed and explained.
The session ended with the task of presentation of a lesson plan, including all components, the following day.
On the third day of the workshop a quick recap of the 6c's was done. Teachers from different departments made a presentation of the lesson plan made by them keeping in mind the Know to be Bridge and weaving the different competencies in the lesson plan while the other teachers assessed the lesson plan and gave suggestions to improve it.
